Revelations
While driving through some awesome back roads today, I was impressed with the grunt that this little inline 6 offers up so low in the RPM range. Wait a second...
I think i have 3.91 gears (stock gears are 3.62).  I just went back to my data/video runs to get the mph and rpm info (see image below), and entered the data here:

http://www.bokchoys.com/differential/e46_gear_ratio_calculator.htm

The tires on the track are 285/30/18.
Select M3 for the tranny gearing.

My data says at 8000RPM, I was at 91.3 mph.
If I had stock gears, the site says I'd be at 97 mph in 3rd gear.
When i switch to 3.91 gears on the site, it shows 90.15 in 3rd, which better matches up to the speeds I'm seeing.
Also explains why I was on the rev limiter at autocross at 57 mph in 2nd gear. 37 seconds in here:

and might explain why there is a hum/driveline noise in my car...aren't steeper gears noisier? mine were in my firebird/camaro days.
