1/21/06 Setrab Oil Cooler Installation

The billet adapter (above the oil filter) is sold by LG Motorsports for $99. It has a provision for a sending unit (i used it for oil temp).

This shows the location of the oil temperature sending unit.

Mike used a circular table saw to make the clean cuts (left side).

So pretty.

Oh its a front mount intercooler ....NOT!

.

Notes:

1) 1/8'' NPT to M12 x 1.5 -- this is what the autometer oil temp sending unit goes into, which in turn goes into the LG adapter (but this had to be drilled out slightly so the sending unit would fit).
2) Radiused Pump Fitting. -8AN Port to -10AN Hose --this is what goes into the LG adapter

Here are pics I took when I first got the parts ( I did not use the T configuration). The blue fittings in the pics weren't used because I put the big oil pressure sending unit in the stock location behind the intake manifold, and I just put the smaller oil temp sending unit directly in the LG adapter.

2/22/06

I acquired some SSR Competition wheels in sizes 17x8.5 for the fronts and 17x9.5 for the rear, both with 42 mm backspacing. The stock wheels (16x8) with tires (245-45-16) weigh 44 lbs. The SSR fronts with 245-40-17's weigh 43.5 lbs and the rears with 275-40-17 weigh 46 lbs.

3/16 MazdaSpeed adjustable coilover shocks and Eibach springs

Thanks Dave for doing the install. Nice work as always! The shocks were built by KYB to Mazdaspeed's specifications. 4 way adjustable shocks. Adjustable ride height. Front springs are 340 lbs/in and rear springs are 280 lbs/in. I found this info on the web about these coilovers:

`Ride-Height Adjustable Suspension Unit` for the FD3S body style RX-7 (93-95) by the absolute best in Mazda Performance, Mazdaspeed.
The shocks are four-way adjustable and ride height can be adjusted as well. The ride height can be lowered 25mm  lower than the stock ride height and raised 10mm over the standard ride height.  The front springs are setup at 5kg/mm and 4.05kg/mm for the rear. The upper mounts are the OEM units. The items are the B-Spec setup with the part number 9CD6 30 001 and retail for JPY198,000 (approximately $1800).

Fronts springs (QCD634011A 08.00) are about 9.5 inches long

Rears springs (QCD628011A 43.99) are about 11 incles long.

4/2/07 Found some info about the Mazdaspeed Coilovers from www.fdnewbieimports.com.

Two pics from FDnewbie parts: pic 1, pic 2

And this almost matches what Wilson sent me:

Spring rate front primary 282 lbs/inch -differs from above info.
Spring rate front secondary 412 - same as above info.
Spring rate rear primary 229 - differs from above info.
Spring rate rear secondary 288 - same as above info.
Front bump damping force at 12 in/s shaft velocity: 4 settings from 229 to 267 lbs
Front rebound at 12 in/s : 4 settings from 667 to 778 lbs
Rear bump 4 settings from 178 to 222 lbs
Rear rebound 4 settings from 600 to 778 lbs
Ride height change compared with stock: +1/2in to -1in
Means of adjustment: turning knob on damper unit, accessible without removing wheel

Just for reference, here are populare spring rates. As you can see, the Mazdaspeeds that I have are on the soft side:
